NCWIT Awards - My Weekend At Bank of America
Hello! This past weekend I was thrilled to fly to Charlotte, NC for the National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT) Awards for Aspirations in Computing. In December, I learned I was chosen as one of the 50 national winners for high school female leadership in STEM. This was especially exciting given there were about 3,600 applicants.
It was such an exciting weekend! Dad and I flew into Charlotte on Friday afternoon, we had dinner, and then we introduced ourselves to the other winners and parents. The girls spent the night playing games and getting to know each other. Then, Saturday was a full day! We attended morning sessions with NCWIT and leaders at Bank of America, toured the Discovery Place where we participated in design thinking sessions, and visited the Bank of America Headquarters. The highlights of the day were definitely verbally "programming" a human robot in the beautiful workspace of the Discovery Place Education Center, and meeting the head of the Bank of America Red Team, AKA a professional hacker complete with the ability to pick locks and just be generally awesome.
Saturday night was the award dinner. It was such an awesome night! Our conference room had been completely transformed into a ballroom, all the girls walked the red carpet, and we took lots of pictures. We each accepted our awards, and I was so honored. I even got to shake hands with Lucy Sanders, the founder of NCWIT, as I left the stage. I met so many wonderful people. I made some great friends (we're already planning a reunion!), and we had a super fun after-party with all the girls.
I am so thankful and honored to have been chosen by NCWIT and Bank of America to be recognized alongside these amazing girls. And thank you Dad for coming to Charlotte and for sharing sushi with me. :) Thank you to everyone who's gotten me to where I am so that I can have these opportunities.
